Fact check

How references support the quizzes

A source establishes the factual basis for an answer; the SportNerdia Editorial Team remains responsible for choosing a clear scope, writing an unambiguous prompt, testing the accepted answer, and updating the page when the underlying fact changes.

What gets checked

Team membership, league structure, scoring rules, penalties, competition formats, award records, venue associations, and sport-specific terminology are checked before publication.

Why it matters

A reference makes the intended context visible and gives the editorial team a reliable place to recheck facts when leagues expand, teams move, records change, or formats are revised.

Corrections

If an answer needs another accepted variant or a source no longer supports the wording, send the page URL, question, and supporting link through the contact page.

Selection rules

How a reference earns a place in the list

Primary sources first

Official league directories, rulebooks, competition pages, and governing-body materials are used when they directly answer the question and are publicly accessible.

Scope must match

A team directory can support a current membership question but not every historical claim about that league. Historical or rules questions use a reference suited to that specific claim.

Links are reviewed

Broken, redirected, or materially changed references are replaced during editorial review. A review date changes only when the page or its underlying quiz content receives a substantive check.
